Elon Musk’s AI startup, xAI, has launched Grok-3, its latest chatbot iteration, intensifying competition with OpenAI, Google, and China's DeepSeek. The chatbot, available to Premium+ subscribers on X, introduces a new smart search engine, DeepSearch, designed for reasoning-based responses.
Musk emphasized Grok-3’s superior performance over its predecessor during a livestream, asserting its place in the AI race. xAI is also expanding its data center capacity, with its Memphis-based "Colossus" supercomputer aiming to lead AI development. However, analysts question whether the model’s improvements justify the extensive resources used.
This announcement follows Musk’s consortium offering $97.4 billion to acquire OpenAI’s nonprofit assets—an offer that was rejected. As xAI ramps up investment, the AI competition continues to escalate.
